Sir Antony Jay, 1930–2016

Sir Antony Jay, co-creator of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister, died after a long illness on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at age 86.

The Grauniad obituary and Jonathan Lynn's tribute post on Facebook are both well worth reading.

(In whatever afterlife there may or may not be, I do hope that Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne have offered to buy the first round of drinks.)

Hello, all! In the interests of adding some more material to this community, I'm going to be posting transcripts from some retrospective and related programs about the series. I'll link them here in a sort of master post, but the full transcripts will be locked to community members only.

MOD POST: Open for Posting

'It is characteristic of all committee discussions and decisions that every member has a vivid recollection of them and that every member's recollection of them differs violently from every other member's recollection. Consequently, we accept the convention that the official decisions are those and only those which have been officially recorded in the minutes by the Officials, from which it emerges with an elegant inevitability that any decision which has been officially reached will have been officially recorded in the minutes by the Officials, and any decision which is not recorded in the minutes is not been officially reached even if one or more members believe they can recollect it -- so in this particular case, if the decision had been officially reached it would have been officially recorded in the minutes by the Officials. And it isn't so it wasn't.'
-- Sir Humphrey Appleby, from Yes, Prime Minister 2.1: "Man Overboard"

In other words, this DW community for fans of the British television series Yes, Minister (1980-82) and Yes, Prime Minister (1986-87) is now open. Feel free to join and discuss aspects of the characters, the episodes, the stories, and any other topics related to the series. Tags have been provided for suggested post categories. Just try not to make fun of Margaret Thatcher too much, all right?
